ISO 45001/ OHSAS 18001 – Occupational health and safety

Occupational Health Safety Assessment System (OHSAS) 18001 is an international standard for occupational health and safety management systems. In 2018 the new standard for occupation health and safety ISO 45001 was released.

ISO 45001:2018/ OHSAS 18001:2007  is a combined management system for the working environment and safety similar to what is used for quality assurance within a company.

ISO 45001:2018/ OHSAS 18001:2007 provides the following benefits:

  • Potentially saves costs within a company by coordinating individual certification schemes into one
  • Reduce the employee's exposure to occupational health and safety risks
  • Demonstrate compliance in regards to a positive working environment and safety concerns

How does the certification process work?

The certification process begins with an initial meeting to determine informally if the company is in compliance with the requirements of OHSAS 18001 and is ready for certification or if actions are needed before the certification audit takes place.

The certification will review all the requirements of ISO 45001:2018/ OHSAS 18001:2007 standard and if the company has followed and implemented all the requirements.

A final meeting will verify what must be completed before a certificate can be issued.

The certificate will be valid for 3 years after completion of the certification audit. During this period, annual surveillance audits will be conducted. During this 3 year period, Nemko will contribute to the identification of potential improvements.
